NJ YMCA Youth and Families Surprised by Unforgettable FIFA World Cup 2026™ Experience - July 2026 Newsletter

July 16, 2026

What began as an ordinary soccer practice turned into an unforgettable surprise.

On June 16, the Perth Amboy U15 Girls Soccer Team arrived at the Thomas Mundy Peterson Park expecting a typical training session. Instead, they were surprised with tickets to attend a FIFA World Cup 2026™ match at New York New Jersey Stadium.

On June 22, the team watched Norway take on Senegal, experiencing one of the world's biggest sporting events firsthand. More than just a soccer match, it was an opportunity to witness elite athletes, strengthen friendships, and create lifelong memories.

A week later, on June 23, participants from the YMCA's Families Fit Together program were invited to the Y for what they thought was a routine visit. Instead, they were surprised with tickets to the June 30 Round of 32 match between France and Sweden.

These young participants have demonstrated leadership, resilience, and a commitment to building stronger family relationships and brighter futures. This unforgettable experience celebrated not only their achievements but also the power of community and opportunity.

The Raritan Bay Area YMCA extends its heartfelt gratitude to Governor Mikie Sherrill's Office, Airbnb, Mayor Helmin Caba, the City of Perth Amboy, and all of the partners who made this once-in-a-lifetime experience possible for our youth.
