Farmers Market Navigator Program - July 2025 Newsletter

July 2, 2025

On Saturday, June 28, 2025, our team facilitated and recorded a Farmers Market Nutrition Program (FMNP) Navigator Training and Tour at the West Windsor Community Farmers Market, in partnership with City Green and the market manager. Designed as a resource for SNAP-Ed nutrition educators, this recorded training showcases best practices for increasing access to affordable, local produce for SNAP-eligible and low-income households, and creating more inclusive and welcoming farmers markets through policy, systems, and environmental (PSE) approaches.

This resource offers guidance on building relationships with market managers and vendors, reducing stigma around food assistance, and connecting shoppers to community resources. It also demonstrates how to use the New Jersey Seasonality Chart and featured recipes to help shoppers prepare meals using market produce.

The West Windsor Community Farmers Market, established in 2004, offered a strong model to feature. Featuring 19 farms, over 40 vendors, and programs like Good Food Bucks and food waste recovery, it exemplifies how community-driven markets can promote access to healthy food through inclusive outreach and local engagement.

By providing a practical, on-the-ground look at how markets can serve as community-centered food access points, this resource can help to strengthen collaboration between SNAP-Ed programs and farmers markets across New Jersey.
