Heather Doerr
Heather is thrilled to rejoin our team as the Food Access Coordinator with the NJ YMCA State Alliance. In this role, she will advance equitable food systems and support communities across New Jersey. Heather is a Certified Health Education Specialist with over 15 years of experience in healthcare management. She is eager to apply her skills and passion to address health equity issues and advocate for marginalized populations.
During her internship with the YMCA State Alliance, Heather supported statewide food access initiatives and developed resources to enhance nutrition education and address food insecurity. Her research on best practices for implementing the WSCC model, enhancing youth engagement strategies, and addressing food insecurity was instrumental in developing the WSCC digital reference document.
In her previous role as a Nutrition Educator with Rutgers Cooperative Extension’s SNAP-Ed program, Heather developed and delivered tailored, interactive workshops to promote healthy behaviors and address the unique needs of participants. By fostering strong relationships with community partners, she ensured program success while streamlining operations through an efficient inventory tracking process she created and maintained. Heather’s solution-focused approach enabled her to effectively plan, manage, and implement nutrition and physical activity interventions that made a lasting impact.
Heather is known for her collaborative leadership, adaptability, and problem-solving skills and is dedicated to creating impactful partnerships and programs that empower underserved populations. She prides herself on her strategic approach to promoting health equity and her unwavering commitment to making a positive difference in the lives of others.
