Expanding Access to Water Safety and Youth Leadership - December 2025 Newsletter

Supported through legislative appropriation funding through June 2026, 15 YMCAs across New Jersey will expand Safety Around Water programming to eligible residents, offering swim lessons to eligible 2nd graders and local first responders. In addition, 12 YMCAs will expand Youth and Government programs, empowering students in grades 7 through 12 to build civic leadership skills and engage in hands-on policy experience.
These initiatives are designed to increase access to lifesaving water safety skills and youth civic engagement for community members living in households at or below 250% of the federal poverty level, with a focus on residents who have experienced systemic and historic exclusion from such programs.
To engage residents who may be eligible to participate, YMCAs are collaborating with school districts, county and municipal governments, faith-based organizations, parks & recreation departments, local health departments, libraries, first responders, and other community-based organizations.
If your organization would like to explore partnership opportunities with local YMCAs or connect community members who may benefit from these programs, please contact njymca@njyalliance.org.
