Calling All 9th and 10th Graders: Start a Youth and Government Program at Your School or YMCA! - October 2025 Newsletter

Do you want to build leadership skills, learn how government works, and make your voice heard on issues that matter? The NJ YMCA Youth and Government (YAG) program gives high school students the chance to step into the shoes of elected officials, judges, lobbyists, journalists, and more – all while connecting with peers from across the state.
If your school or local YMCA doesn’t already have a YAG delegation, now is the perfect time to start one! We are especially encouraging 9th and 10th graders to take the lead. Starting early means you’ll have more years to grow in the program, run for leadership positions, and shape the future of Youth and Government in New Jersey.
What’s in it for you?
- Learn how laws are made and debated in a hands-on, engaging way
- Develop confidence in public speaking and collaboration
- Gain leadership opportunities that look great on college and career applications
- Make lasting friendships with students from across New Jersey
- Be part of a statewide movement empowering youth voices in democracy
How to Get Started:
- Reach out to your local YMCA or school administrator and ask about starting a Youth and Government delegation.
- Connect with the NJ YMCA State Alliance for resources, training, and support.
- Gather a group of classmates or friends who are interested – you don’t need experience, just curiosity and enthusiasm!
Your voice matters. Take the first step today to bring Youth and Government to your school or community and begin your leadership journey.
