Message from NJYMCA State Alliance Executive Director

May 29, 2020
Dear YMCA Family & Colleagues,

Today, our community is going through uncertain and unprecedented times and challenges. Although our facilities are temporarily closed, we remain open to meet the various needs of our state’s most vulnerable. Since the Covid-19 outbreak, many YMCAs across New Jersey have repurposed buildings and redirected staff and services to support critical community needs. And thanks to major funders such as Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, Russell Berrie Foundation, Novo Nordisk and Horizon Foundation for New Jersey, we’ve been able to provide even more support.

In partnership with the state of New Jersey and local health departments, 14 Ys across the state are offering emergency child care services to healthcare providers, first responders and essential workers. We’re also providing feeding and meal programs for thousands of children and families daily, as well as housing for nearly 1,200 people per day. And, many of our Ys have partnered with emergency response organizations such as the American Red Cross to hold blood drives to help combat the severe blood shortage.

Through our Y telehealth and virtual services, we have provided much needed behavioral health services and can communicate with those that are socially isolated as well as support our chronic disease prevention program participants. And, we’re also continuing to engage with our more than 750,000 members and the community through virtual exercise and wellness classes.

We’ve rallied together and are helping to do our part to flatten the curve and get our communities back healthy and strong. Thanks for your support and commitment to #StayWithUs!
