(Trenton, NJ) August 24, 2017 –  Former New Jersey Governors Thomas H. Kean and Richard J. Codey have been named recipients of the 2017 YMCA New Jersey State Alliance top leadership awards to be presented on Oct. 19th.

With his wife Mary Jo Codey, Gov. Codey, who currently serves as state senator, has been named to receive the Y’s Social Responsibility Champion award for his years of leadership in advancing mental health services, including launching a statewide postpartum depression awareness campaign and establishing The Codey Fund for Mental Health. Gov. Kean has been named to receive the Y’s Healthy Living Champion award in recognition of his decades of work to improve the health of communities throughout the state, including his leadership within the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, the nation’s largest philanthropy.

“The YMCA is honored to recognize these two powerful leaders for their decades of enduring service in elected office, in business and in philanthropy to improve the health and wellbeing of millions of people in communities across our state,” said YMCA State Alliance President Diane Mann, who is also president and CEO of the Madison Area YMCA.

“Gov. Kean and Gov. and Mrs. Codey have done groundbreaking work to advance healthy living and social responsibility throughout our state. We have a special and unique opportunity to recognize them along with our outstanding youth volunteers from throughout the state,” said Bill Lovett, executive director of New Jersey YMCA State Alliance.

Awardees will be honored at the New Jersey YMCA State Alliance annual celebration on Thursday, October 19, at Forsgate Country Club in Monroe Township. Outstanding YMCA youth volunteers from throughout the state also will be recognized at the event.
