Statewide Social Media Contest

The New Jersey Alliance of YMCAs is hosting a statewide contest on social media in order to get more people involved in promoting healthy lifestyles and building a Culture of Health. Participants can share photos on Instagram, Twitter or Facebook and tag @njymca #HealthyNJContest, plus the name of the New Jersey nonprofit that the prize would support. Photos could be featured on the YMCA website as part of an interactive map, and three lucky participants will get a $500 grant for the health-related cause of their choice.

New Jersey Healthy Communities Network Announces $860,000 in Grants to 43 Organizations

The New Jersey Healthy Communities Network, through a funding collaborative, awarded $860,000 to 43 nonprofit organizations to enhance the built environment and develop policies to support healthy eating and active living.  Grant awards are $10,000 per year for two years, with the stipulation that action plans and goals are being met by the end of year one.

The Y Embarks on its First National Advertising Campaign

The Y.M.C.A. — or the Y as it is now known — has existed for more than 160 years and has never felt the need to advertise. After all, even without the help of the ubiquitous song from the Village People, most people know what the Y is.

Or they think they do. Concern that the public has misconceptions about the Y’s mission and programs has spurred the nonprofit to undertake its first national advertising campaign.
